“Let’s Talk Serious Startups” pairs cohosts and serial entrepreneurs John Maddox, CEO of Serious Startups, and David Ledgerwood, COO of Jumpstart Foundry, one of the leading startup accelerators in the U.S. We met each other on Twitter and became fast friends over a burrito in late 2013.

It didn’t take long for us to realize we were telling the same story of startup founders who were consistently looking for solid advice on how to get their businesses off the ground and take them to the next level. David knew less than 2% of startups get into a top mentor-based accelerator like Jumpstart Foundry. John had previously appeared on the inspiration-focused podcast Entrepreneur on Fire. The host of that show, John Lee Dumas, quite literally inspired John to look at the podcast business and John offered David a cohost role.

Together we tackle the “brass tacks” issues of being a successful startup founder. We think inspiration starts with perspiration and we’re focused on the tactical, practice of successful startup founders. We’re interviewing the biggest startup founders in business to ask them about their experiences, what they’ve learned, and what they learned the hard way so you don’t have to.

It’s hard to get a startup off the ground and we want to help. Startups need great planning, solid investment messages, revenue and expense control, traction, teambuilding, and growth. Our show focuses on the nuts and bolts of what it takes to be a serious startup.
